A Nexum wormhole guide
Wormhole space - "J-space" - is the ~2,600 unknown systems that only connect through wormholes, never gates. Each system has a class that sets its difficulty and rewards, sometimes a system effect that buffs or nerfs your ships, and a static that decides where it reliably connects. Understanding these three things is most of what you need to live in, or roam through, wormholes.
The main classes scale in Sleeper NPC difficulty, loot, and - importantly for movement - wormhole mass allowances.

Many wormhole systems have a persistent effect that changes your ship stats - and the strength scales with class (a C6 effect is far stronger than a C1). The main ones:
Always check a system's effect before you commit a fight in it - a Magnetar can double a brawler's damage, and a Pulsar can flip a fit's tank on its head.
A static is a connection a system always regenerates to a fixed destination class. When a system's static dies (collapsed or expired), a new one of the same type spawns somewhere else. So a C3 with a highsec static will always have a route to highsec - the specific highsec system changes, the guarantee does not. Statics are why corps pick a home class: a reliable highsec static makes logistics easy; a C5 static makes for constant capital content.
Wandering connections are the random, temporary holes that open into your system from elsewhere. They are unpredictable and are the usual way roamers and invaders arrive - which is why you scan your home every day.
Every wormhole has two ends. The side that was opened from the other system shows up as a K162 and carries no mass/type info of its own. To know the real hole type, mass and lifetime, you read the named signature (e.g. "N062", "C247") on the opposite side. A mapper resolves this for you automatically from your scan results.
